After a first degree at Cambridge University in Modern and Medieval Languages, and an early career as a translator, copywriter and graphic designer, Melanie retrained in the 1990s, gaining a First Class Honours degree in Psychology through the Open University, a Master's degree in Integrative Counselling and subsequently qualifying as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist through the Charlie Waller Institute, Reading University.

Alongside her private practice, Melanie works as a provider of onsite intervention / post-trauma support for organisations following critical incidents such as terrorist attacks, industrial accidents and sudden deaths in the workplace. She is also a qualified workplace conflict mediator.

Since the late 1990s, Melanie has also worked as an executive coach and trainer in many public and private sector organisations, including London Underground and the Civil Service. She currently works as an Associate Tutor for Oxford Said Business School on a number of the School's management and leadership programmes.

Mary qualified as a clinical psychologist post university and worked within the NHS for a decade.

She then took a career break and worked with all age groups in Education and Social Services. In 2000 she returned to the NHS and clinical psychology and concentrated on developing CBT expertise. She is now accredited as a practitioner, trainer and supervisor by the BABCP. She has provided training and supervision for the HI Intensity IAPT course at Reading University (part of the government's initiative to make talking therapy, and specifically CBT, more widely available to all). She currently offers supervision to Certificate and Diploma students at the Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre.

Mary has a particular interest in Depression and is a Director of the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust, a charity devoted to raising awareness of depression in young people.
